Tangy Coleslaw

Ok wow, what a simple easy peasy recipe I have for you today! But before I get to that, a lil confession, I briefly fell off the Whole30/Paleo reset wagon at our Melbourne Cup lunch this week. This was a paid for work function where we were entertaining clients so unfortunately I didn’t have a lot of control over the food. I did try to eat a light meal beforehand to stave off the hunger but that didn’t really help as I did consume some of the canapes and most weren’t gluten free (although they had an incredible salmon tartare of which I proceeded to shovel about 10 into my mouth!). The thing that I could have controlled but chose not to was my alcohol consumption, I slipped and had a few drinks throughout the day. Well, now that I’ve come clean to you all I do feel better about myself. I decided not to guilt/punish myself too much for the slip (trust me the lack of sleep from alcohol and stomach pains the next morning from the food were punishment enough), I still ate strict for breakfast and dinner that day and all the meals since. I’m back and ready to hit Reset!!!

Well, finally I am back from my 6 week blog hiatus. 2 weeks ago I got married and went on my honeymoon and the lead up was very hectic so I thought it best to take a break from the blog so that I could focus on one thing at a time. Now the wedding and honeymoon are over (shame) so I’m back to share more thoughts and recipes than ever!


Ok so first, a bit of a confession, I totally fell off my wholefood/Paleo wagon whilst away on the honeymoon. I did try to stick relatively Gluten Free but there was a bit of dairy involved, a few sneaky breadrolls and far too much desert and cocktails. Although we had an absolute blast and I have no regrets, I did spend most of the week in a fair bit of stomach pain which really only cemented more in my head that paleo-lifestyle really is the way for me. Faux-Potato Salad

Well, Spring has definitely sprung here in Queensland and that means it’s time for my 3 favourite Bs… BBQs, Beaches and Beers!

Entertaining can sometimes be a bit tricky when you’re trying to lead more of a clean-eating style of life and one of my favourite salads to bring along to a family or friend’s get together used to be Potato salad. Of course this has meant that in the last year I have been reading lots of recipes and experimenting with different flavours to come up with an alternative to the traditional white Potato Salad. Although lots of Paleo-ites still eat white Potatoes, I personally find them very starchy and for me they are easy enough to avoid in my own cooking. I much prefer Sweet Potato or Pumpkin! Sunday morning is well and truly amongst us which means its time to get started on some prep cooking for the week. Being organised is the key to leading the healthy lifestyle that you want because when you already have food prepared or ingredients purchased its much much harder to ignore and reach for those junk food evils.

3min Choc-Hazelnut Pudding

This is my first Sunday morning post but is only the start of many. Sunday is my favourite day, it’s when I’m in my cooking zone which for me is one of the most relaxing activities.

I use Sundays as recipe-experimentation day, food prep for the week day, baking day and I always try to cook a Sunday dinner which is a bit trickier or that takes a bit more time, tonight’s dinner is going to be slow roasted pork belly with roast veggies and fresh made apple cider sauce.

My recipe post today is going to take us back to last Sunday, a big experiment day for me. We were heading to friend’s for dinner so I thought it would be the perfect opportunity to create a new dessert/sweet treat and use my unaware friends as guinea pigs! Earlier in the week I’d seen a post on Facebook of a microwave self-saucing pudding which was full of grains, dairy and sugar (a.k.a my three nemesis-es!) so I was determined that I could create something just as good with far more nutritional value!
